The problem of analogy of being was the main concern of his oeuvre. (Przywara’s theme of the analogy of being was taken by Hans Urs von Balthasar as a cornerstone for his trilogy: Theo-Aesthetics, Theo-Drama, and Theo-Logic). The translation of the book is prefaced with an extensive Introduction (115 pages) – including life and works of Przywara – written by John R. Betz.
The first part of the book consists of two chapters “Metaphysics as Such” and “Analogy of being”, where Przywara considers the interrelation of two, presumably binar, structures, lying on the extreme poles of each philosophical discource: meta-ontics/meta-noetics , transcendental metaphysics/metaphysical transcendentalism , a priori/a posteriori metaphysics , philosophical/theological metaphysics. All of these topics are being covered and “reconciled” in the second part of the book.
In the second half, Przywara partly writes a genealogy of the very notion ‘analogy’. Starting from Heraclitus he considers only main authors (Parmenides, Plato, Aristoteles, Augustin, Aquinas), without giving a full account of the concept analogy. The main source for Przywara’s reasoning is the Fourth Council of the Lateran (1215), where the phrase “For between creator and creature there can be noted no similarity so great that a greater dissimilarity cannot be seen between them” was coined. This Council plays a key role for Przywara , because precisely from there on, he develops his whole logic of argumentation. Then he passes on to the consideration of the principles of Hegel’s and Heidegger’s philosophies, which are called dialectical theo-panism and dialectical pan-theism respectively.
Here in the second part of the book Przywara also considers thirteen debated topics of his time:
philosophies of essence and existence;
the scope of analogy as a fundamental catholic form;
philosophy as a problem;
metaphysics, religion, analogy;
Image, likeness, symbol, mythos, mysterium, logos;
phenomenology, realogy, relationology;
man, world, God, symbol;
the religious gnoseology of st.Augustine;
between metaphysics and christianity;
beautiful, sacred, christian;
Imago Dei: On the theological message of Max Picard;
Primal christian terms: kerygma, mysterium, kairos, oikonomia;
Time, space, eternity.
By the virtue of analogy, Przywara opens in all these topics the very suspended rhythm. In other words, analogy works here as the middle, permanently moving between the extremes of discource.
Przywara does not make a diligent effort in his work of tracing back to the whole genealogico-generical tree of the analogy of being throughout Christian tradition (beginning from the early Church Fathers and apologists, Cappadocian, Maximus the Confessor, Isaac of Nineveh, John of Damascus, islamic thinkers, debates between ‘analogia entis’ and ‘univocatione entis’, Cajetan). Reading his masterpiece, one can conclude that the author leaves this task to the posterity, to both catholic and orthodox theologians.1 This is the task where they should shed light on the questions Przywara left unanswered (above mentioned genealogy); the topics he partly misunderstood (accusing fr. Sergij Bulgakov’s ‘Sophiology’ in pantheism (p.356-360)); what he as Roman catholic intendedly opposed to Eastern Orthodoxy (authority and primacy of the Roman Church against Eastern patriarchs (p.378)); opposing eastern orthodox and Augustine–Thomas schemata of the understandings of ‘participation’ (р.377-379). In all of these Przywara does not investigate the questions in their depths, but speculatively constructs two wholenesses and then opposes them to each other.
As well it is of less importance that, on the one hand, contemporary scotists would argue that Przywara’s wish to ground his concept of analogia entis in the conciliar documents of Fourth Lateran, simply because such a notion had not been used by Fathers of the Council, and some contemporary thomists would argue that ontological amplitude and depth of Przywara’s analogia entis which he attributed to Thomas.2 As John Betz many times pointed out, sometimes great thinkers are being forgotten; in the case of Przywara he was not totally forgotten, but the influence he had made was implicitly preserving the classical Christian discource on God until the late 90s when it became explicit.3
In my opinion, the achievement of Przywara lies in the fact that one can cure the wounds of (post-)Heideggerian, (post-)Hegelian, and the like throttlehold ontologies of the West and their lawfully-begotten ‘solely post-ontological’, ‘solely phenomenological’, ‘solely post-metaphysical’ approaches to divine4 and call one to reason about Christian God – ever dynamic, and ever Alive, “the God-of-the-Turn in-and-beyond the God-of-the-All” (p.595), ever present to all of us, and eternally remaining Himself – who enters into history of humankind, but at the same time is the very Granter of history itself.

1 Unfortunately, for some orthodox theologians the catholic-protestant debates on the analogy of being had remained/are remaining either misunderstood (as it is the case of fr. John Romanides: https://oodegr.co/english/filosofia/analog1.htm#* ; www.romanity.org/data/floren.rtf) or resulted in the ‘relational ontology’ (as in the cases of John Zizioulas, Chrēstos Giannaras, and John Manoussakis: https://www.academia.edu/8711459/Analogia_Entis_and_Theological_Hermeneutics, Chrēstos Giannaras, Person and eros. 2008; John Zizoulas, Being as Communion. 1997; Communion and Otherness. 2006).

3 Here I mean one of the first steps further, beyond, so to speak, Przywara, which was done by catholic theologian William Desmond in his trilogy Being and the Between, Ethics and the Between, God and the Between and David B. Hart’s The Beauty of the Infinite.
4 Here I mean all those publications containing ‘after’, namely: Don Cupitt, After God: The Future of Religion; Gianni Vattimo, After Christianity, Belief; John P. Manoussakis, ed., After God: Richard Kearney and the Religious Turn in Continental Philosophy; John D. Caputo, Gianni Vattimo, and Jeffrey W. Robbins, eds., After the Death of God; Mark C. Taylor, After God; Richard Kearney, Anatheism: Returning to God after God; John P. Manoussakis, God after Metaphysics: A Theological Aesthetic; and so on.

Erich Przywara. «Analogia Entis. Metaphysics: Original Structure and Universal Rhythm» trans. John R. Betz and David Bentley Hart (Grand Rapids, MI: William B. Eerdmans, 2015).
Metaphysics: Original Structure and Universal Rhythm» (Аналогия Бытия.
(Надо добавить, что автора «Analogia Entis» не обошел стороной и режим «Третьего Рейха», в частности «семитский вопрос», о чем (а также о преувеличении позиции и других немецких богословов по отношению к политике антисемитизма в 1920-30е годы (детальнее см: Paul Silas Peterson, "Erich Przywara on Sieg-Katholizismus, bolshevism, the Jews, Volk, Reich and the analogia entis in the 1920s and 1930s", in Zeitschrift für Neuere Theologiegeschichte/ Journal for the History of Modern Theology 19 (2012), 104-140) Джон Бэц также говорит во Введении. Paul Silas Peterson, The Early Hans Urs von Balthasar: Historical Contexts and Intellectual Formation. Walter De Gruyter Inc. 2015; Paul Silas Peterson, "Once again, Erich Przywara and the Jews: A response to John Betz with a brief look into the Nazi correspondences on Przywara and Stimmen der Zeit", in Zeitschrift für Neuere Theologiegeschichte/ Journal for the History of Modern Theology 21 (2015), 148-163.).
2008; John Zizoulas, Being as Communion. 1997; Communion and Otherness. 2006).
Заслуга Эриха Пшивары, на мой взгляд, состоит в том, что с его частично разработанной генеалогией «аналогического» соотношения между Творцом и тварью христианская теология спасает проевшуюся с хайдеггеровских времен и уже всем надоевшую метафизику и все что с ней связано, и излечивает умы от постмодернизма и полухристианских «исключительно» феноменологических, «исключительно» постметафизических, «исключительно» постонтологических подходов к христианству (здесь, прежде всего, имеется ввиду вся та масса, казалось бы, христианской литературы с приставкой «After» (Don Cupitt, After God: The Future of Religion; Gianni Vattimo, After Christianity; (а также Gianni Vattimo, Belief); John P. Manoussakis, ed., After God: Richard Kearney and the Re- ligious Turn in Continental Philosophy; John D. Caputo, Gianni Vattimo, and Jeffrey W. Robbins, eds., After the Death of God; Mark C. Taylor, After God; Richard Kearney, Anatheism: Returning to God after God; John P. Manoussakis, God after Metaphysics: A Theological Aesthetic; и так далее) и призывает более радикально осмыслить парадокс постоянного пребывания Динамичного, Живого, входящего в тварную действительность Бога христианского Откровения «в» и одновременно бесконечно «за» всем творением; «the God-of-the-Turn in-and-beyond the God-of-the-All» (p.595).
